It is a standard process, which allows operators to exchange information as a part of roaming for the billing of the use of networks and services.
TAP3 provides full support for the Inter Operator Tariff charging principles and also contains essential information for the Marketing and Customer Service functions.

TAP3 differs from the first generation of billing formats (TAP1-2 and others) in many ways. In particular, it uses a variable file format, based on industry standard file encoding rules (ASN.1). Since TAP3 has no size limitations, it can easily integrate the required extensions to support future services.

Furthermore, this XML values file may be processed by using common XSL parser (such as Apache or Sun) in order to build roaming converters (TAP3 to TAP1-2 or other formats).
